Yolanda Evans is a Textile Designer from Atlanta, GA USA.
She works in printed, embroidered, and mixed media textiles. Since she was a child she didn’t talk much, but was very observant of everything around her. This allowed her to notice many things that most people overlooked. She didn’t realize at the time that it provided her with a world of inspiration, imagination, and creativity. Even now this instinct continues to contribute to her design process. Her work often centers around finding things that are overlooked, taken for granted, or removed from the common narrative. This is manifested through ideas of social and political concerns, exploration of other cultures and people, observation of different countries she visits, or delving into her own personal history. She uses various mixed media to create designs as diverse as her own imagination. She is often questioned about why she is interested in these things. All she can say is that they have been catching her attention her whole life, from the books read, to the movies watched, to the people met, and the history and languages learned. Her hope is that through her work others might experience this same feeling that permeates their thoughts and feelings, and stirs their soul.
Yolanda received her Bachelor of Arts degree in studio arts with a concentration on painting and sculpture at Young Harris College in Georgia. In 2019, she moved to the UK to receive her MA in Textile Design from The University of Southampton’s Winchester School of Art and earned her degree in 2020.
